( i ) the length of the side of the squares will be the HCF of the length and breadth of the rectangle

so side of the square = HCF of 126 and 4

= 2

so length of the side of the square is 2 cm

( ii ) number of squares that can be cut out = area of the rectangle / area of one small square piece

area of rectangle = Length * Breadth

= 126 x 4

= 504 cm²

area of square = side²

= 2²

= 4 cm²

number of squares = 504 / 4

= 126

therefore number of squares that can be cut = 126
