Answer:

Yes, John Byro  had a magnanimous mind and was deferential towards his fellowmen. But this cannot be said in the case of all human beings. Most of the human beings tend to take revenge and expose other's fault.I think John Byro didn't give away the doings of boys because he was well aware of the family's financial status. Also, he could  understand the craving the boys had for horses.

Explanation:

John Byro truly had a magnanimous mind because he never exposed the boys due to the relation he had with the boys' family and mainly because he did not want to spoil the boys' family's reputation of being honest. This shows that he had a big heart to forgive anything. The horse being stolen almost cost him his livelihood.Still,he forgave the boys and also forgave them in such a way that they never felt that he found out their secret and also did not make them feel humiliated. He handled the situation in such a way that the boys realized and regretted their mistake of putting their family's reputation at stake and thus they returned the horse themselves. So,the statement of course appeals to John Byro, but I don't think that all human beings are like him.
