Brain is a part of the Central Nervous System(CNS). It is made up of three parts:fore brain,mid brain and hind brain. It is protected by cranium and a three membranous layer called meninges. There is a fluid between the membranous layer called cerebrospinal fluid protects the brain from shock.

Forebrain:It comprises of Cereberum,olfacto lobes and diencephalon. Cereberum are the seats of intelligence and memory. Cerebrum constituets 80 percent of the brain. It consists of hemi spherical structures called Cerebral Cortex. Olfacto lobes are the centers for smell. Diencephalon is present on the floor of Hypothalamus.

Mid brain:It comprises of Corpora Quadrigema and Cerebral Peduncles. Cerebral Peduncles connect fore brain and hind brain.

Hind brain: It consists of Cerebellum,Medulla Oblongate and Pons. Cerebellum constituets about 12 to 13 percent of the brain. It provides precision to voluntary actions. It maintains the balance and posture of the body. Medulla controls involuntary actions .

SHORT ANSWER:

Brain is a part of Central Nervous System. It occupies a space of 1200cm3 to 1400cm3. It consumes 25 percent of the energy of the body. It weighs about 1.2 to 1.4 kg. It is made up of Cereberum, Cerebellum and Medulla Oblongate. It is the main coordinating centre in the body. It is protected by skull box or cranium and meninges.
