Digestive juices contain enzymes—substances that speed up chemical reactions in the body—that break food down into different nutrients. The processes of digestion include six activities: ingestion, propulsion, mechanical or physical digestion, chemical digestion, absorption, and defecation. The first of these processes, ingestion, refers to the entry of food into the alimentary canal through the mouth

  1. Mouth

  • Salivary glands ( salivary amalyse)

Converts starch into sugar.

2. Stomach

  • HCl

Kills harmful bacteria & makes the medium acidic for the action of pepsin.

  • Pepsin

Digests protein

  • Mucus

Protects the inner lining of the stomach from the action of HCl

3. Small intestine

  • Liver (Bile juice)

Makes the medium acidic for the action of pancreatic enzymes.

Breaks down large fat molecules into smaller globules so that enzymes can act upon them.

  • Pancreas (Pancreatic juice)

Amylase - Converts carbons to sugar

Trypsin - Digests protein

Liapse - Breaks down emulsified fats.

  • Glands of small intestine (intestinal juices)

convert the protiens to amino acids, complex carbs into glucose & fat into fatty acids & glycerol

Hope it helps !
