HUMAN DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
The digestive system in humans consists of an alimentary canal
and digestive glands (glands that secrete juices) which help in
digestion. The alimentary canal is a long tube beginning with the
mouth where food is taken in and ending with the anus where
the undigested food is expelled out. It is nearly 30ft long and
lies coiled in the body. It is narrow in some parts and wider
in others. Food passes through different parts of the aliment
canal and the process of digestion gets completed in stages. This
food canal or the alimentary canal is like a chemical laboratory
of the body where all sorts of chemical changes of food take
place. Let us now study different parts of the alimentary camal
and their functions.

Answer:

The digestive system is so long to be able to digest food. This helps digestion by allowing time and space to break down food, absorb nutrients, and absorb water. The longest section of the digestive system is the small intestine. In the small intestine, the nutrients from the food are absorbed.
