MADAM SPEAKER: The House would now take up item no. 25 – Institute of Technology (Amendment) Bill.

THE MINISTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND MINISTER OF COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI KAPIL SIBAL):  Madam, I beg to move*:

“That the Bill further to amend the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 be taken into consideration.”                       Madam, the IITs in this country are our premier institutions. Of course many of them were set up way back in the 50s and 60s in this country. But I have to say and place on record that they have provided Yeoman’s Service to our nation. Many of the IIT graduates moved out of India and became solution providers to the rest of the world. They are, now, coming back to India to give back to their country, to their nation the excellent quality of education that they received in this country. It is with this in mind that this Government decided that we need some new IITs so that we get more people from all parts of the country to be admitted to these institutions of excellence so that they become benchmark not just only for other institutions but also for other educational institutions in this country
