Your body has a "thermostat" that controls your body's temperature. It is part of your brain called the hypothalamus (say: high-po-THA-luh-mus). The hypothalamus controls your body's responses to outside temperature. When you get hot, you sweat.

It's in the brain, the hypothalamus. Probably because the brain is the most important organ in the body and it needs it temperature regulated more than any other body part: 10 degrees too hot and in 3 minutes, brain damage occurs, 6 degrees too hot for 30 minutes and damage occurs, 20 degrees too cold for 30 minutes and brain damage occurs.
Body temperature regulation is controlled by the automomic nervous system under the guidance of the medulla oblongatta in the brain stem.
