Answer:

two different types of are present in br3- ;

sp3d on the central atom , and sp3 on the noncentral atoms. The molecule is linear in practice , but the geometry of the central atoms orbitals is trigonal bipyramidal

Answer:

Hybridization is sp3d

  • As we know that electronic configuration of Br is :-
  • (Ar)\: 3d10\: 4s2\: 4p5\: 4d0
  • Br has a total of 4 pair of electron in which 3 electron form 4p orbitals and 1 electron form 4s orbital.
  • Br- ion will donate its 1st electron pair to 4d orbitals of alpha Br through coordinate bond .
  • The characteristic of this bond will be similar to that of a sigma bond between alpha  Br and beta Br.

Therefore it will have sp3d hybridization.
