Hydel power energy or the hydroelectricity is produced by the speedy flow of water currents.

It is a good substitute for the thermal power energy source due to its less polluting nature and renewable ability.

But hydroelectricity cannot provide the humongous amount of energy which we consume everyday.

That's why it is not implemented anywhere as the primary energy source.

So, the statement mentioned in this question in completely false.

The statement that that hydel power contributes to nearly half of the world energy requirements is partially true for hydropower contributes to one-third of the total energy consumption by the world.

It generates 16.6% of the world’s total electricity and 70% of renewable electricity. Although the main constraint on further development of electricity is constrained due to environmental impacts, the potential for development is particularly great.
