The hydration of ionic compounds involve evolution of heat, weakening of attractive forces and dissociation into ions. Heat energy equal to the enthalpy of hydration is evolved. Since, the attractive forces between cation and anion become weaker, the dissociation of ionic compound to form ions is easy. The weakening of attractive forces in the ionic compound is due to the attraction between the ions of the ionic compound and the water molecules.

Answer:

Hey !

Explanation:

Ionic compounds dissolve in water if the energy given off when the ions interact with water molecules compensates for the energy needed to break the ionic bonds in the solid and the energy required to separate the water molecules so that the ions can be inserted into solution.
