If a hydrocarbon burns in air with a a sooty flame,then it is an unsaturated hydrocarbon.

yes hydrocarbons burn in air with sooty flame.
If the air from this flame touches an object,it releases soot which is a black coloured substance. This happens since the hydrocarbons doesn't burn completely. So they are unsaturated hydrocarbons
