Answer : The color of the flame produced by X and Y are blue and yellow respectively.

X is propane and Y is propene.

The structural formula of X (propane) is, CH_3-CH_2-CH_3

The structural formula of Y (propene) is, CH_3-CH=CH_2

Explanation :

Sooty flame : Unsaturated carbon compounds do not burn completely and give a flame with unburnt burnt carbon particles. Such a flame has yellow color and It is called sooty flame.

Non-sooty flame : Saturated carbon compounds burn completely and give a clear blue flame. This is called non-sooty flame.

Saturated hydrocarbon : It is a hydrocarbon that contain only single bonds between carbon atoms. The general formula of saturated hydrocarbon is, C_nH_{2n+2}

Unsaturated hydrocarbon : It is a hydrocarbon that contain double and triple bonds between carbon atoms.

The general formula of unsaturated double bond hydrocarbon is, C_nH_{2n}

The general formula of unsaturated triple bond hydrocarbon is, C_nH_{2n-2}

As per question,

C_3H_8 is a saturated hydrocarbon (propane)  that burns completely and give a clear blue flame.

C_3H_6 is a unsaturated hydrocarbon (propene)  that do not burns completely and give a yellow flame.
