There are many bonds that can be covalent in one situation and the same might be ionic in some other.
For instance, HCL, or hydrogen chloride is a type of gas in which both hydrogen and chlorine are covalently bound.
At the same time, if hcl is bubbled inside water, that is H2O, then it ionizes to give h plus and Cl minus ions completely.
