Number of spectral lines in visible region = 3

Number of spectral lines in ultraviolet region = 2

The electron is excited from the ground state (n=0) to n = 4 .

The possible spectral lines are -

n1=1 -> n2=2 , n1=1 -> n2=3 , n1=1 -> n2=4

n1=2 -> n2=3 , n1=2 -> n2=4

n1=3 -> n2= 4

Visible region will be n=1 i.e, lyman series and the ultraviolet region will be n=2 i.e, balmer series.

The number of Visible spectral lines = 3

The number of Ultraviolet spectral lines = 2
