Hydrogen being and highly inflammable gas and being supporter of combustion ,yet water whic is made up of hydrogen and oxygen is used to extinguish fire,Why? Advertisement

Water is compound of hydrogen and oxygen. water basically cools the compatibles material so that its temperature comes down below its ignition temp. this prevents the fire from spreading. water vapours surrounding the combustible material helping in cutting off the supply of air. so fire is extinguished.

It is because properties of compound (H2O) are different from properties of its constituting elements i.e. H2 and O2.
