Hydrogen can be placed in both 1st and 17th group in the modern periodic table. Why???

because sometimes hydrogen acts as both like metal and nonmetal

because it's can lose as well as gain one electron so it can be placed in 1st as well as 17 group
roumit:
if it loses its electron, then there will be no electron left in it. Is it possible?
