Hydrogen have shows similarity in both alkali metals and halogens . It is difficult to select group for hydrogen.

It also gets place in 7th group of Mendeleev periodic table because the molecular formula of hydrogen IS H2 you can shift the 2 little down for perfect molecular formula. I think I able to help you
