Hydrogen gas is filled in two identical bottles A and B at the same temperature the mass of hydrogen in the two bottles bottles 12 gram and 48 gram respectively in which bottles will sound travel faster? how many times as fast as other

Anonymous: 48 gram I think because sound requires material medium to travel !

in B because the particles will get more near to each other.

ganeshsharma27092003: But the answer is given A
ganeshsharma27092003: It's OK
ganeshsharma27092003: Thanks for solving.
Anonymous: ohhhhh its gas thats why
yogu76: your welcome
Anonymous: yes it will be A
ganeshsharma27092003: How
Anonymous: because density of A is less than B
ganeshsharma27092003: Thanks
Anonymous: welcome let me answer it !

Remember :

IN A GAS :

The speed of sound is inversely proportional to the square root of density of the gas .

  • More the density less the speed
  • Less the density more the speed

ANSWER

In 12 g , the speed of sound will be more.

  • 12 g has less mass than 48 g
  • Hence it has less density because density is directly proportional to the mass
  • Hence the speed will be more

Compare

The density of A:B = 48:12

                               = 4:1

SPEED will be :- √4 : √1

                        = 2:1

Hence the speed will be 2 times than B

Hope it helps :)

ganeshsharma27092003: But how 2 times
ganeshsharma27092003: Because I don't know
Anonymous: edited my answer see it !
ganeshsharma27092003: Thank you thank you thank you!!
Anonymous: welcome :-)
Anonymous: remember speed is inversely proportional to square root of density or mass
