hydrogen is a non metal but it is placed in the reactivity series because we need to know which metals are reactive than hydrogen or which metal can displace hydrogen from its aqueous solution

example in reactivity series sodium is placed up from hydrogen means sodium is more reactive than hydrogen and sodium can react with water which is outside of hydrogen and displace hydrogen and

as you know gold is placed below hydrogen this means gold cannot displace hydrogen from water
