Hydrogen is used as a rocket fuel because when we burn hydrogen it produces so much amount of heat to do some work and when hydrogen burns in rocket then it moves the rocket in the upper side by it's repulsive force. .

pallawkumartiwari: Liquid hydrogen delivers a specific impulse about 30%-40% higher than most other rocket fuels. Liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen are used as the propellant in the high efficiency main engines of the Space Shuttle.

now it is because of less availability of liquid hydrogen hydrogen gas is used its velocity of exhausting is maximum in all the chemicals and therefore it is chosen and used in preference of the Other fuels because of following reasons specific impulse is the parameters for the Rockets which gives the mileage for the rocket it gives us idea about how much it is accelerated and pushed and therefore hydrogen has the highest specific value it is used in the upper stages and is more efficient at higher altitude it is also pollution free its combustion of hydrogen with pure oxygen is only water there is no question of pollution to the environment ........
