Heya friend!!
Rajdeep here...
Hydrogen is a good reducing agent, so it is used in the reduction of metallic oxide with metals below Aluminium in the reactivity series.
The metal reactivity series is:
K
Na
Ca
Mg
Al
Zn
Fe
Ni
Sn
Pb
H
Cu
Hg
Ag
Au
Pt
The metals above aluminium are very reactive and have a strong affinity for oxygen, hence they cannot be reduced by hydrogen. Even zinc oxide cannot be reduced by hydrogen, it can only be reduced by coke.
Eg-
PbO + H2 -----> Pb + H2O
Lead oxide gets reduced to lead.
Thanks!
