Hypophosphorous acid as well as its salts are strong reducing agents. It has only one ionisable hydrogen atom i.e., the acid is monobasic. ... Hypophosphorous acid(H3PO2) has 1 acidic hydrogen(hydrogen attached to the electronegative atoms F,O,N), and hence has a tendency to release H+ ion making it reducing in nature.
