Let the length of the smaller arm be x.

Hence, length of the larger arm is (x+5).

Using Pythagoras theorem we get,

x2+(x+5)2=252

2x2+10x+25=625

2x2+10x−600=0

x2+5x−300=0

(x−15)(x+20)=0

Since length of cannot be negative, 

Hence, x=15 cm

Therefore, the larger arm will be 15+5=20 cm.
