when a plant cell is immersed in a solution which has a higher solute concentration than the cell sap, protoplasm contracts. (hyper tonic)

the shrinkage of protoplasm from cell wall is know as plasmolysis

when the plasmolyed cell is placed hypotonic solution protoplasm regain its original form and process is called deplasmolysis.
