Questión :-

A bag contains 12 balls out of which x are white.

(i) If one ball is drawn at random, what is the probability that it will be white ball?

(ii) If 6 more balls are put in the bag, the probability of drawing a white ball will double, than that in (i). Find x.

Solutión :-

(i)

Total number of balls = 12

Total number of white balls = x

$\sf \: p(selected \: ball \: will \: be \: white) \: = \: \: \frac{total \: no. \: of \: white \: balls}{total \: no. \: of \: balls}$

= x/12

(ii)

Total balls = 12 + 6 = 18

Total white balls = x + 6

$\sf \: p(selected \: ball \: will \: be \: white) \: = \: \: \frac{total \: no. \: of \: white \: balls}{total \: no. \: of \: balls}$

= x + 6/18

Now,

p(drawing a ball in (ii) will be double the probability of drawing a ball in (i)

=

$\sf \rightarrow \: 2( \frac{x}{12} ) = \frac{x + 6}{18} \\ \rightarrow \: \sf \: \frac{x}{6} = \frac{x + 6}{18} \\ \sf \: \rightarrow \: x(18) = 6(x + 6) \\ \rightarrow \: \sf \: 18x \: = 6x \: + 36 \\ \rightarrow \: \sf \: 18x - 6x \: = 36 \\ \rightarrow \: \sf \: 12x \: = 36\\ \rightarrow \: \sf \: x \: = \frac{36}{12} \\ \rightarrow \: \sf \: x \: = 3$

SOLUTION :

In the required bag, there are 12 bags.

X balls are white.

Case 1 :

From the bag, 1 ball is drawn.

Probability that this ball is white :

=> No of favourable Cases / Total Number Of Cases I.e, Sample Space.

=> X / 12

Now 6 more balls are added.

The sample space is 18.

Nope probability of Drawing a white ball :

=> No of favourable Cases / Total Number Of Cases I.e, Sample Space

=> X + 6 / 18

Now, Probability of drawing a white ball is Doubled..

=> X + 6/ 18 = X / 6

=> 2X = 6

=> X = 3
