 - 2(x + 3) = 8 \\ or \:  - 2x  - 6 = 8 \\ or \:  - 2x = 8 + 6 = 14 \\ or \: x =  -  \frac{14}{2}  =  - 7

0  =  18 + 2(p - 6)  \\ or \: 2p - 12 =  - 18 \\ or \:  \: 2p =  - 18 + 12 =  - 6 \\ or \: p \:  =  -  \frac{6}{2}  =  - 3
