(i) A part of monthly hostel charges is fixed and the remaining depends on the
number of days one has taken food in the mess. When a student A takes food for
20 days she has to pay 1000 as hostel charges whereas a student B. who takes
food for 26 days, pays 1180 as hoste charges. Find the fixed charges and the
cost of food per day​

Answer:

let the fix charge be x and the charge for food taken per day be y

Case1:

As student A takes food for 20 days,

x+20y=1000-------(1)

Case2:

As student B takes food for 26 days,

x+26y=1180--------(2)

So subtracting eq. (1) and (2);

x+20y=1000

x+26y=1180

- 6y= - 180

y= 30

From eq. (1);

x+20y=1000

x+20×30=1000

x+600=1000

x=1000-600

x=400

Hence, fixed charge= Rs. 400

And the cost of food per day= Rs. 30
