I. A white coloured solid X ( a compound of calcium)gives a highly exothermic reaction with water to form Y, which is used for whitewashing. When CO2 is passed to the aq. The solution of Y, white ppt. of Z is formed. Z undergoes thermal decomposition to form X and CO2.

i. Identify X, Y and Z.

Answer:

X = CaO ( Quick lime)

Y = Ca(OH)2 (Slaked lime)

Z = CaCO3. ( Calcium Carbonate)

(i) Ca + O2 ➡️ CaO

(ii). CaO + H2O ➡️ Ca(OH)2 + heat

(iii). Ca(OH)2 + CO2➡️ CaCO3 + heat
