Step-by-step explanation:

Let their ages be x and y

so,

 \frac{x}{y}  =  \frac{3}{1}  \\ x = 3y

5 years hence , there ages will become

x+5 and y+5........so

 \frac{x + 5}{y + 5}  =  \frac{2}{1}

x + 5 = 2y + 10

From eq. (i)..... x = 3y ......put in above eq.

3y + 5 = 2y + 10 \\ 3y - 2y = 10 - 5 \\ y = 5

but x = 3y ......so

x = 3y \\ x = 3(5) \\ x = 15
