If the 0 mark is invisible, you can start measuring from any mark and subtract the result you got by the same number. So-

If you start measuring from n and get the observation as x, the correct observation would be x - n.

For example - You start measuring from 2 and get the observation as 7.

Then the correct observation would be x - n, which in this case is 7 -2 which 5.
