Given : An isosceles triangle.

base is 3 cm more than  congruent sides.

perimeter is 35 cm.

To Find :   the length of my base.

Solution:

congruent sides.    =   X  cm

Base = Y cm

base is 3 cm more than twice congruent sides.

=> Y = X + 3

Perimeter  = X + X  + Y

=> 2X + y  = 35

=> 2X + X + 3 = 35

=> 3X  =  32

=> X  = 32/3

Y = 32/3 + 3  =  41/3

Base = 41/3  cm

if use what given in question :

Then  base is 3 cm more than twice congruent sides.

Y = 2X  + 3

=> 2X + 2X + 3 = 35

=> X = 8  and Y = 19

but such triangle is not possible as

19 > 8 + 8

and for a triangle sum of any two sides is greater than third side
