Let my present age be x years and present age of my daughter be y years.

I am currently 5 times as old as my daughter.

According to question,

=> x = 5y ___ (eq 1)

In 6 years from now, I will be 3 times as old as she will be then.

Now,

  • My age = (x + 6) years
  • My daughter age = (y + 6) years

According to question,

=> x + 6 = 3(y + 6)

=> x + 6 = 3y + 18

=> 5y + 6 = 3y + 18 [From (eq 1)]

=> 5y - 3y = 18 - 6

=> 2y = 12

=> y = 6

Substitute value of y in (eq 1)

=> x = 5(6)

=> x = 30

•°• My present age = 30 years

Daughter's age = 6 years
