''I am happy'' is a simple sentence.

There are mainly three kinds of sentences    

1. Simple Sentence:    

• A sentence that has only one independent clause is known as a simple sentence. It is a complete sentence with a subject and predicate. Example Sita bought a frock.

2. Compound Sentence:    

• A sentence in which two independent clauses are joined by a  coordinator is known as a compound sentence. Example 'Sita is a student' and 'her mother is a teacher.'

3. Complex Sentence:    

• A sentence that contains one independent clause and one or more dependent clauses is known as a complex sentence. Example Let me know 'if you need any help'.
