I am having one doubt in these questions ...

When 3.0 g of carbon is burnt in 8.00 g oxygen, 11.00 g of carbon dioxide is produced. What mass of carbon dioxide will be formed when 3.00 g of carbon is burnt in 50.00 g of oxygen ? Which law of chemical combination will govern your answer?

and the second question is

When 5g of calcium is burnt in 2g of oxygen then 7g of calcium is produced . what mass of calcium oxide will be provided when 5g of calcium is burnt in 20g of oxygen ? which law of chemical combination will govern your answer?

I am puzzled because these question can govern both the laws of chemical combination. But in some book only one is written....plzzzzzzzz help me ....!

It's because the elements can combine in fixed ratio by mass. In the first question 3g of carbon reacted with 8g of oxygen. So ratio is 3:8. It will combine in same ratio of 3:8

Anonymous: Actually I want to ask you that if I will write both law of chemical combination then will my marks deduct ??
ddx: yes it will be
Anonymous: look I am confused in some books it is written that it will govern law of conservation of mass but in some books it is written that law of constant proportion will govern these answers..
ddx: we have to govern law of definite proportions as its asked for the mass of compound CaO and CO2 which will form with fixed ratios of chemical combination
Anonymous: but isn't it governing law of conservation of mass??

(1) Law of conservation of mass
(2) Law of constant proportions
