I am having trouble with direct and indirect speech can anyone tell me the basics

Direct speech is the exact words and “” is used . Indirect speech is not the exact words and “” is removed and said becomes told , sometimes there can be said , add that . A universal truth remains same in direct and indirect speech The teacher said ,” The earth revolves around the sun.” - direct , The teacher told the students that the earth rotates around the sun .
