I am new to french and I have seen people use tu or Vous for 'you'. Are there any distinction between them? I don't get which to use and when?

When it’s a formal conversation(for eg. meeting someone for the first time), you use vous and when it’s an informal conversation , you use tu
Another difference is that tu is singular and vous is plural
