i will explain you by an example.
Consider an expression 2x+4 and 3x-9
2x+4=2(x+2) and 3(x-3)
there are four distinct factors 2,3,(x+2),(x-3)
L.C.M= 2*3*(x+2)(x-3)
L.C.M=6(x+2)(x-3)
