Heya !!!
Here's the answer !!
The information given is :
▶A bacteria undergoes binary fission for every minute.
▶ This bacteria can fill up a cup in 1 hour....
Your question is how much time does it take to fill half the cup.... Right?
So u might think it's 30 minutes...
But it's absolutely wrong....
✔✔It takes 59 Minutes to fill half the cup ✔✔
Here's the explanation :
♦♦It divides every minute right....
♦♦It means it doubles in every minute...
▶▶ For every minute : 1 ➡2➡4➡8➡16➡32 ...
This is what happens every minute...
✔✔In one hour it fills the entire cup...
✔✔It means it just doubled in the previous minute...
✔✔So your answer is EXACTLY 59 MINUTES ✔✔
Hope this helps you :)

✨ Here's ur answer
My answer is intutive, I am not doing it rigorously, think about it, bacteria becomes twice of it's population every minute, and it took them 60 min to fill a cup.
Consider now bacteria had filled half a cup, now to fill full cup bacteria needs 1 min only (as they become twice every min so 1/2cupbacteria×2=1cupbacteria) thereforee,
time taken by bacteria to fill half cup= time taken by bacteria to fill full cup – 1=60–1=59minutes
✨ Another way......
No. of cells intially in the cup =1
After 1 min no. of cells will be 2×1=2¹
After 2 min =2×2=2²
After 3 min =2×2×2=2³
So, after 60 min no. of cells will be 2^60
Quantity of whole cup =2^60 cells
Quantity of half a cup =2^60/2=2^59
Thus, time taken to fill half of the cup =59min
I hope this helps:)
