Let the son's age be y and father's age be x,

So, ATQ

1. x=3y and 2. x+5=2.5(y+5) {After 5 yrs}

Solve 1 and 2,

We will get x=45 and y=15....

Hope it helps...

Father is 3 times as old as his son

Let Present age of Son=x years

Then Present age of Father=3x years

After 5 years

Son age will be=(x+5) years

Father Age will be=(3x+5) years

After 5 years Father age will be also 2\frac{1}{2} times his son

Means

Father age after 5 years =2\frac{1}{2}×Age of Son After 5 years

3x + 5 = 2 \frac{1}{2} (x + 5) \\  \\ 3x + 5 =  \frac{5}{2} (x + 5) \\  \\ 3x + 5 =  \frac{5x}{2}  +  \frac{25}{2}  \\  \\ 3x -  \frac{5x}{2}  =  \frac{25}{2}  - 5 \\  \\  \frac{6x - 5x}{2}  =  \frac{25 - 10}{2}  \\  \\  \frac{x}{2}  =  \frac{15}{2}  \\  \\ x =  \frac{15 \times 2}{2}  \\  \\ x = 15

Age of Son=x=15 years

Father=3x=3×15=45 years

Father=45 years

Son=15 years
