Almost  all wild lions are residents of  sub-Saharan Africa, but one small fraction of population of Asiaticlions also exists in India's Gir Forest in Gujrat state.

Asiatic lions and African lions are subspecies of the same species. Asiatic lions once travelled from the Middle East to India.

Now, only a fraction of these magnificent animals exists  in the wild. India's lion population sees 27percent growth.

It has been reported that India  has more Asiatic lions than it did five years ago.

The lion population had risen from 411 in 2010 to 523 in 2015, as declared by Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel.
