Given : . An astronaut has a mass of 100 kg

To Find :

a)The weight of the astronaut on the Earth. (g=9.8m/s²)

b) The weight and mass of the astronaut on the moon.(g=1.6m/s²)

c)  The weight on Mars (g = 3.7 m/s²)

Solution:

Mass Does not change

Hence mass will remain 100 kg  Everywhere

Earth , Moon and Mars

Weight = mass * acceleration due to gravity

W = Weight

W = mg

m = 100 kg

a)The weight of the astronaut on the Earth. (g=9.8m/s²)

W = 100 * 9.8  = 980 N

b) The weight and mass of the astronaut on the moon.(g=1.6m/s²)

Mass = 100 kg

W = 100 * 1.6  =160 N

c)  The weight on Mars (g = 3.7 m/s²)

W = 100 * 3.7  =370 N

Weight of the astronaut on the Earth = 980N

Mass of the astronaut on Moon = 100 kg

Weight of the astronaut on the Moon = 160N

Weight of the astronaut on the Mars = 370N
