I. Answer the following:

1. Vinegar is acetic acid while baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. When

baking soda and vinegar mix, they react with each other and produce

carbon dioxide.

The chemical reaction can be represented by the following word equation:

Vinegar + Baking Soda → Carbon dioxide + Water +

Other substances

2.  Reaction between copper sulphate solution and iron is a good example of  a chemical change exhibiting a colour change.

The word equation for this reaction is:

Copper sulphate + Iron → Iron sulphate + Copper

(Blue) (Black) (Green) (Brown)

On adding black-coloured iron nail to blue-coloured copper sulphate

solution, green-coloured iron sulphate solution is produced along with

brown copper.

II. Name the reactants and products for the following equations. Also

balance the equation.

1. 2Mg + Cl2→ 2MgCl

Reactants Products

Reactants- Magnesium, chlorine

Product- Magnesium chloride

2. 2Na + Cl2→ 2NaCl

Reactants Products

Reactants- Sodium, chlorine

Product- Sodium chloride

3.  4Fe +3 O2 →2 Fe2O3

Reactants Products

Reactants- Iron, oxygen

Product- Iron oxide
