I think Mr. Gupta did the right thing.

  • The price of flowers is a story written by Prabhath Kumar Mukhopadhyaya.
  • This is an emotional story of Mrs. Clifford a widow, Maggie her daughter and Frank their son.
  • Frank was a soldier.
  • He was posted on Frontier India for a war.
  • His family had no information about him for months.
  • So they decided to search for him.
  • They met Mr. Gupta, an Indian.
  • Mrs. Clifford's health worsened due to the missing of her son.
  • At the time Mr. Gupta approached her with the ring which was a gift given to her by Frank.
  • Mrs. Clifford believed it has magical powers.
  • To console Mrs. Clifford, Mr. Gupta lied that Frank was ok.
  • The lady was greatly relieved and thus she could recover slowly.
  • Later only Gupta came to know that Frank was dead.
  • Mr. Gupta was ashamed about what he did, so he wrote a letter to the family informing them about their son's departure.
  • What Gupta did was right, because his intention was pure: to help the poor mother recover.
