"I bargained with Life for a penny,
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store.
For Life is a just employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.
I worked for a menial's hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have willingly paid."
What is the meaning of it??

The poem reminded me of salary negotiations. When you are offered a new job and benefits package, many people accept it, especially women, not knowing that they can negotiate a higher offer.
Because of that, they end up earning much less over their working life. The prospective employer wants you, and that’s why you were offered the job. And they expect you to negotiate, but they will not tell you that. Learn from the poem, and start to think and act differently.
The next time you set out to accomplish something, anything, how about you raise the bar by one percent. How much more would you accomplish in 365 days if you always do one percent more. How about when you get offered a job or project, you make a counteroffer for a higher wage. “For Life is a just employer, He gives you what you ask…”
And if you think of yourself as being unskilled and having no prospects, do something about it.
