Explanation:

Let b's weight be x. Then a's weight is 2x/3.

A ratio can also be expressed as a fraction, so a/b

 =     \frac{ \frac{2x}{3} }{x}

 =  \frac{2x}{3}   \div x

 =  \frac{2x}{3}  \times  \frac{1}{x}

 =  \frac{2}{3}

 =  2:3

Hence, the ratio between the weights of a and b are 2 : 3.

Answer: 2 : 3
