let the numbdr be X

One - Third of a number = ( 1/3 ) of X = X / 3
Quarter of a number = ( 1/4 ) of X = X / 4
One - Twelfth of a number = ( 1/12 ) of X = X / 12

Average of One - Third , Quarter , and One-Twelfth of number
=( X/3 + X/4 + X/12 ) / 3
=[ ( 4X + 3X + X ) / 12 ] / 3
= ( 8X / 12 ) / 3 =( 2X / 3 ) / 3 = 2X / 9

Number is greater than 56 than the Average of One - Third , Quarter , and One-Twelfth of number
=> X = 56 + ( Average of One - Third , Quarter , and One-Twelfth of number )
=> X = 56 + 2X / 9
=> X - 2X / 9 = 56
=> ( 9X - 2X ) / 9 = 56
=> 7X / 9 = 56
=> X = ( 56 × 9 ) / 7 = 8 × 9 = 72

Thus required number is 72
