I can't understand how electricity travels in a close circuit. Why close circuit is needed for any appliance to work. I mean two wires get connected from 2 sides of appliance and battery. Why don't just connect a wire to battery and that appliance will use that power to work. why 2 sides, two terminals and why current needs to return back to battery?

Answer:

1You need a closed path, or closed circuit, to get electric current to flow. If there's a break anywhere in the path, you have an open circuit, and the current stops flowing — and the metal atoms in the wire quickly settle down to a peaceful, electrically neutral existence.
