the longest side whose length is not given will be of

4+2 = 6

then do as you did in the first part cause I am not sure that we have to add all sides for area

Find the area of each rectangle in each figure and add the areas.

(a) The figure has three rectangles,

Two of them on the either sides of the figure have length 1cm and breadth 7cm.

The other one in the middle has length 3cm and breadth 1cm.

The area of 1st rectangle = l x b

                                         = 1 x 7 = 7 sq.cm

The area of 2nd rectangle = l x b

                                         = 1 x 7 = 7 sq.cm

The area of 3rd rectangle = l x b

                                           = 3 x 1 = 3 sq.cm

The total area of the figure = sum of areas of the 3 rectangles=

7 + 7 + 3 = 17 sq.cm
