1) Common salt contains ionic conductivity so for conduction they have to melt in liquid.
2) Magnesium Cloride is a ionic compound so there is ionic bond between mg and cl2 and it is a crystal so structure is fixed so bond can't breaks easily so the melting point of mgcl2 is higher.
