I conducted an experiment. I filled three cups with the exact same amount of water in them. Cup 1 has hot water. Cup 2 has room temp. water. Cup 3 has cold water. I took each cup and put one teaspoon of sugar inside of each. I timed how long it would take to completely dissolve the sugar in each cup. Would you think it would take more than 2 minutes, exactly 2 minutes or less than 2 minutes for each cup? Explain your reasoning using the four ideas of particle theory.

Razia conducted an experiment in the field related to the rate of percolation. She observed that it took 40 min for 200 mL of water to percolate through the soil sample. Calculate the rate of percolation.

Given,

Amount of water = 200 mL

Percolation time = 40min

Rate of percolation = Amount of water in mL / Percolation time in min

=200 / 40

=5 mL/min.

Hence, the rate of percolation of water through the given soil sample is 5 mL/min.
